While making content on Hearthstone, Toast also made videos on the origins of the characters of some cards. Sometime after, Toast began making Hearthstone plays and uploading them to YouTube. While Toast was initially disappointed it was not Diablo 4, saying "nobody wants to play just a card game", his brother was very into card games, which allowed Toast to try it out himself, eventually getting into it. While contemplating at the lack of opportunities presented for his three-year degree, Blizzard Entertainment announced its newest game at the time, Hearthstone.

He shifted to a major in mathematics, but felt he was not cut out to finish the full four-year degree, so he went and graduated a three-year Bachelor's degree in mathematics instead. However, in his third year, he eventually dropped out of computer science because while he enjoyed its practical applications, he struggled with its theoretical aspects, particularly with Big Oh notations.
